Miaouli Square is one of the few squares in Greece of the 19th century and the heart of the city, where the evening stroll is taking place, the obvious meeting point for residents and visitors. The buildings that gradually gave shape to the square began to be built in 1840-50, with characteristic arcades that were established by the original design, along the lines of mainly European and Italian cities. The original name was Square Othonos and was given in honor of the first king of Greece. After his eviction on 15 October 1862, renamed in honor of Nikolaos Leotsakos Square Leotsakos. The current name was given in 1889, when it was unveiled the statue of Andreas Miaoulis.
