Cultural events

In the town of Kos each summer the Municipality organises an event called ‘Hippocratia’ which take place from July to September and include the following: the recitation of the Hippocratic Oath in Asclipieion, concerts of classical as well as other types of music, exhibitions of folkloristic material, painting, sculpture, photographs, traditional dances and music, special educational –recreational shows for children arranged in parks and squares, theatrical shows, buskins, and gigs that take place in the ancient theatre and the medieval castle. Lastly, there are many sailing games having the marina of Kos as the starting point. The exact timetable of the ‘Hippocratia’ is available at the cultural centre of the municipality of Kos located on Vasileiou Georgiou avenue (tel. 22420 22051)

There are also other local events that are characteristic of the islands products.

These take place through out the island during the first week of August. Mastichari organises the Wine Festival, while the first two weeks of the same month two other events called Fish Festival and Honey Festival are organised in the villages of Kefalos and Antimacheia.

Finally, in July and August the municipalities of the island arrange various cultural events and shows (called ‘Dikaia’ and ‘Herakleia’) which include concerts, theatrical shows, folkloristic dances and music, presentations of books, shows for children, photograph exhibitions and sport games.
